The Minutes of the previous meeting (AGM) were taken as read, and approved. The spelling of “Steve Mendelsohn” is to be corrected.

4.         SECURITY FEEDBACK / SECTOR CRIME FORUM

  • The CPF elections were held last week. The CPF is working well, and the report by Director Mboweni showed that almost all crimes are decreasing. Street mugging is however still a concern in Hillbrow.
  • Inspector B reported that 6 serious crimes had taken place in Killarney since the last meeting. One vehicle was stolen, there were two “smash & grab” cases at the corner of The Wilds again (with 3 arrests), one car-jacking was reported, one person was arrested after an altercation where a firearm was brandished and there was one common robbery, with an arrest.
  • JMPD was not in attendance, but it was reported that 19 traffic fines had been issued during the month.
  • It was requested that the SAPS and JMPD maintain pressure on the various groups of vagrants and loiterers that are becoming established in the area.

5.         BRT – BUS RAPID TRANSPORT

  • There has been no movement on this since the AGM.
  • We are waiting for the Environmental Assessment Report, which is due by August.

6.         TRAFFIC ISSUES

  • The new Council budgets are now in place.
  • JM will try to arrange site meetings with the various relevant engineers, to initiate discussions on traffic calming initiatives and road repairs.

7.         ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

  • The Freeway Fence project had been delayed due to the destruction of some of the concrete pillars. It was agreed at the AGM that BC would initiate this project now that repairs have been completed, but this has not yet been possible.
  • It was agreed that the suburb is looking smarter, and it was noted that a number of buildings are making a serious effort to maintain their surroundings.
  • PikiTup management will be requested regularly to inspect the area.

8.         FINANCE AND MEMBERSHIP

  • No Treasurer was present, and no financial report was given.
  • No expenditure has been incurred since the AGM.

9.         GENERAL

  • Mr Hein Dyer reported that a new Mall manager has been appointed – this is Debra Sharnock, formerly of the East Rand Mall.
  • The Pay-On-Foot system will be operational by August.
  • There will be half an hour of free parking available at all entrances from August.
  • Mr Dyer welcomed the NKRA to hold future meetings at the new Management Offices at the Mall. He was thanked by all for this kind offer.
  • Gleneagles is looking to share a caretaker – please contact Jacques if you know of anybody who might suit.

The meeting closed with thanks to all attendees.
